International Joint Master degree in Euromediterranean Relations




The Master consortium is composed by:

RelMed Master aims to train workers specialists and researchers on the most relevant political, social, cultural and economical issues in the EuroMediterranean area in order to contribute to the development of regional relations and international exchanges.

RelMed is an EHEA official Master degree recognized by ANECA & AQU (Spanish and Catalan Agencies for QA).

RelMed has also been awarded the Mediterranean Office of Youth (MOY) Excellence Label.


An information meeting will be held in Paris 8 on March 30th 2012, at 10.30 am (room D 203).



  • Provide advanced training in the Euromed cooperation areas.
  • Build a solid basis to increase the existent research on the areas highlighted by the European Union as regards to the Euromed region;
  • Enhance European Studies scope of offer, specially on European foreign policy studies;
  • Improve the skills and specifical knowledge of the technical staff from institutions and organizations at Euro-Mediterranean level;
  • Create specialists  on each strategic line of the Union for the Mediterranean and;
  • Train technical staff for projects development.




First Year (M1) in Tarragona (Universitat Rovira I Virgili) – 60 ECTS

  • Enrolment at URV
  • Courses:
    •     Cultural, political and religious basis of Mediterranean Society.
    •     Geopolitics in the Mediterranean during the 20th and 21st Centuries.
    •     Formulation and execution of European Projects in the Mediterranean Area.
    •     Creation and Management Policy of NGOs at regional level in the Mediterranean.
    •     Introduction courses to each specialization
    •     Civil Society in the Arab World.
    •     Current Geopolitics: Turkey and the EU.
    •     Diplomacy in the Mediterranean Area.
    •     Analysis and Conflict Management: Cyprus; Palestine-Israel; Lebanon-Israel; Western Sahara.
    •     Fundamental Rights in Multicultural Societies.


Second Year (M2) Specialization – 60 ECTS

  • Enrolment at URV
  • The specialization year is carried out in a different university, at one of the partner institutions. No more than 4 to 5 students will be selected per specialization.

  • Courses offered at Paris 8, according to the specialization: Students will choose each year from a variety of courses (not less than 40 ECTS) from among the following courses, mostly taught in French  (at the Institut Maghreb-Europe or at the Département de Science Politique):

    •     Mouvements sociaux, mouvements de droit (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Histoire et sociologie de l’immigration (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Les sociétés berbères au centre de l’échange millénaire entre la méditerranée et le Sahel (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Femmes, violence et mémoire en Méditerranée (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Stratégies identitaires et cultures plurielles en Méditerranée (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Intellectuels et sociétés, Anthropologie du Maghreb (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Discours sur l’image orient occident (Institut Maghreb-Europe)
    •     Analyse de la légitimité (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)
    •     Discrimination, diversité et politique anti-discriminatoire (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)
    •     Nation, nationalité et nationalisme (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)
    •     Empires, colonisation, post-colonialisme (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)
    •     Justice et rapports de forces mondiaux (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)
    •     Méthodes de la recherche  / méthode du stage (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS, mandatory)
    •     Séminaire de recherche annuel (Département de science politique – 5 ECTS)

  • Research paper related to the internship (20 ECTS, mandatory)

Enrolment and scholarships

The enrolment at URV is mandatory during M1 and M2. Selected students will receive a student ID card from the consortium partners during their M2 but registration fees are to be paid to URV each year.

Each candidate will be asked to provide personal details and a postal address for purposes of communication and information during their education. Make sure you have this information ready and up to date when you pre-register.

When ?

  • 1st. Period: from 1st March to 30th April
  • 2nd Period: from 20th May to 15th June

Where ?

You must pre-register online, on Universitat Rovira i Virgili’s website (chose Euro-Mediterranean Relations 2011 when prompted)
We recommend you to pre-register during the first phase.

Tuition fees

Tuitons fees can be found on URV’s website. URV is a public university. Fees are set by the Catalan government within the limits established throughout Spain.
